Food for Thought: online course

Would you like to learn more about how food and nutrition affects our mental health, via a new online course?

What we eat can have a big impact on how we feel, so we have put together ‘Food For Thought’, a free workshop course of five modules, delivered in partnership with Lotus Fitness Academy.

The course will be self-guided learning, meaning you would watch videos on playback, at your pace (at home, or you could go to a local library). There are mini-questionnaires to complete to progress to the next module, but these are formatted to help you progress – so there is no pressure to remember everything. Though it is self-guided, there will be a Stockport Mind contact on hand to enrol you, identify with you goals that you want to achieve through this course, and just in case you should have any problems accessing the content (so this will involve coming to our office initially, Dove House SK1 3NP, to be enrolled. We are following all Covid safety protocols).

If you would like to apply to take part, and you meet all four of the following criteria, please feel free to submit your details in the form at the bottom, and someone from Stockport Mind will be in touch:

  • On 21 August 2020, I was aged 16+
  • I live in Greater Manchester and can provide proof of my address
  • I can provide proof that I have the right to work in the UK
  • I can prove that I am currently not in employment, education or training

If you don’t meet this criteria, we may be able to run the course again, so please sign up to our free monthly e-newsletter and look out for updates on future courses.

This project is funded by the European Social Fund, therefore at this time, the course is free for eligible participants.

As well as being educational about food, nutrition and mental health, the aim of the workshops is also to improve your confidence and motivation for the future too.

The content is provided by a qualified Sports Scientist, and is about well-balanced meals, and small healthy lifestyle changes – it is not about dieting.

The five modules on this holistic course are:

  1. Food and Mood
  2. Portion Control
  3. Eating Well on a Budget
  4. Food Labels
  5. Mindset

Eligible participants will be provided with logins to complete the course online, via a section on our website.
