Matthew Whittaker is embarking on a sponsored cycle to fundraise for us.
Initially organised as a one-day Manchester to Brighton effort, the route for Matthew’s cycle has now grown almost fourfold – he’s cycling 900 miles in four days!
Matthew will still be starting in Manchester but will now finish up climbing the Alpe de Huez, one of the biggest climbs in the Tour De France.
He will set off on 15th July, and will be accompanied by three friends who are raising money for their chosen charities as well. Matthew has set himself a £500 target and has already raised over £300.
“My dad took his life 16 years ago this April after suffering for a long time with mental health problems. There was very little by way of support so I hope to make a small difference to a charity that seeks to help those in need,” Matthew said.
Matthew has racked up some big distances in training already, including a 100 mile ride from Stockport to Birmingham via Uttoxeter and Lichfield, and a 165 miler from Morcambe to Scarborough.
We would like to say a big thanks to Matthew for choosing us, and best of luck for the day.
