Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd, based in Stockport, are one of the world’s leading engineering consultancy firms with a reputation built on quality, engineering excellence, integrity and community. As part of their Charity and Corporate Social Responsibility Charters, Fichtner have a commitment to supporting local charities and giving something back to the local community. At the end of each year, employees are invited to make suggestions to the Charity Committee as to who they believe the company should support in the following year and why.
For 2016, Fichtner employees voted Stockport and District Mind as their chosen charity; which fits in with the health and well-being focus this year for the staff. Following the vote, it emerged that an employee had put forward Stockport and District Mind following the death of their close friend, which was caused by mental illness.
Fichtner’s fundraising for Stockport and District Mind has been progressing well so far this year:
1) The Manchester Marathon saw 1 runner from Fichtner who completed the course in a very admirable 3 hours 57 mins. They also had 11 volunteer marshals who were positioned along the course to cheer on the participants and ensure the safety of the public.
2) Fichtner hold a quarterly football grudge match between the younger and “more experienced” members of staff. For the last game they introduced a pay-per-goal element in which the every time a team conceded a goal, they would have to make a donation towards Stockport and District Mind. This clearly drove the youngsters on, with the ambition of emptying the pockets of their seniors being an added bonus, and they ended the game triumphant with the final score standing at 10-7!
3) The Grand National saw an office sweepstake, and as the luck of the (Northern) Irish would have it, the Belfast site rep won the glory of the day. He has kindly donated his winnings.
4) As well as the Marathon, a team of 16 Fichtner employees competed in the Manchester 10K, all finishing in great times and raising lots of money in the process.
Fichtner’s fundraising has taken many different shapes and forms so far, and looks to be even more eclectic as the year progresses with a Coast to Coast cycle, cake sale, Euro 2016 sweepstake, an old school sports day, and Christmas jumper day just some of the events planned!
