The biggest changes to social care for a generation

The biggest changes to social care for a generation are due to take effect next April, and all of the final legal detail was published today.

For the last two and a half years, Mind has been campaigning to shape these changes and make sure people with mental health problems can get social care support when they need it.

Today we heard that we’ve made a real difference – thanks to your support we’ve made these changes:

• a new right to independent advocacy
• better assessment of fluctuating needs
• more support for people to stay in their homes and ensure they are clean, safe and habitable

The Care Act is still not perfect, but we have come a long way from where it was. Our campaigners have been central to this success – with your help we have achieved far greater change than we could have possibly done ourselves.
