Mind in Greater Manchester
We all talk about Greater Manchester being unique and different, in terms of health and social care this is indeed true. The biggest change to the National Health Service since its formation has happened here in Greater Manchester. All the power, all the decision making and all the money regarding every single aspect of health and social care provision has been devolved to Greater Manchester.
This provides us as Greater Manchester Minds with great opportunities, but also with a huge challenge in that we are currently not designed to operate and to be heard at a Greater Manchester level. So to enable us to start looking at what Mind in Greater Manchester potentially looks like we have recently recruited Stewart Lucas (Ex CEO of Lancashire Mind) as a Project Coordinator.
Stewart is strategic thinker with vision, who can build a future for our burgeoning partnership, enabling us to work more closely together, develop Greater Manchester wide services, bid for tenders and to promote us all at strategic levels. This is a challenging role but one which could improve access to our unique and wide ranging portfolio of services aimed at promoting good mental health and challenging stigma and discrimination.
Stewart won’t be alone in this work as he will have the full support of National Mind and all 5 Local Minds – Manchester Mind, Mind in Salford, Stockport and District Mind, Rochdale and District Mind and Tameside, Glossop and Oldham Mind. We believe that by working better together can we can all reach more people, change more lives and a shape a Greater Manchester we are all proud to live in.
