Who are we?
We are a community-based rehabilitative arts project for adults recovering
from mental ill-health who are living in the community. What
do we offer?
We offer a wide range of creative experiences in the visual arts,
theatre, creative writing, animation and photography.
We are regularly
involved in partnership projects and commissions, including "Streets
Ahead" and a sculpture trail at Chadkirk Chapel.
There is a social
side to MAPS as well, with trips and events regularly organised
by the
members themselves.
Sessions are
run by professional artists supported by skilled volunteers. Experienced
members act as mentors to those in need of guidance and support.
Sessions take place Monday to Thursday (10.30-12.30 and 2.00-4.00pm).
There is an open studio drop-in for all members on Friday (10.00-4.00pm).
What
are the outcomes?
Involvement in creative activities coupled with emotional support
enriches experience, raising confidence, enhancing self-esteem and
encouraging social skills. Together we promote a positive image
of ourselves as people with a lot to offer the community at large
and we encourage members to see MAPS as a first step towards other
opportunities such as further education, volunteering or employment.
