Last week, 8th-14th May, was Mental Health Awareness Week 2017.
We held information stands in Stockport to give people the chance to discuss mental health with us and take time out to increase their awareness.
The theme for the week was ‘Surviving or Thriving’, the idea being that good mental health is more than just the absence of a mental health problem, with too few of us feeling we have good mental health. This is something our staff members discussed with the people they spoke to during the week.
On Thursday we were at Landis & Gyr‘s Stockport offices. They are a smart meter and smart grid solutions company. We held information stands 1-3pm and 10-11pm to ensure we covered all three shift patterns, giving all staff the chance to talk to us or take away information booklets.
On Friday, we held another stall, this time at Cheadle Hulme School. A powerpoint presentation we had prepared was showing throughout the week to give pupils a chance to think about mental health awareness, and our presence there on Friday gave them a chance to speak to our staff too.
We also have an event organised for our own staff members, making sure that we’re looking after our own wellbeing in addition to that of other people. We’re going to go for a walk in a park and have a picnic.
Although #MHAW17 is over for this year, this list of ideas we prepared before the week could be worth a look so you can be mental health aware all year round.
