Speed of Sight is a charity founded by Mike Newman. Mike has been blind from birth and at a young age, Mike was met with disapproval and adversity when he told people he would like to become a race car driver when he grew up. Today, Mike is the fastest blind man on the planet – he has achieved several world records, which include fastest speeds in a car, on a motorbike and in a speed boat. Mike also achieved a world acrobatic record in a plane for doing the most loop-de-loops. Mike set up the charity Speed of Sight to enable those who would never get a chance to drive, to do just that. He also aims to support the aspirations of people who are visually impaired by providing them with the opportunity to drive.
Approximately an amazing £1600 was raised for both Stockport Mind and Speed of Sight through our lovely participants racing blindfolded!
We would like to say a massive thank you to John from Speed of Sight who organised the event and Lee aka ‘The Stig’ who guided our participants! Here are a couple of pictures from the day:
Thank you to Amanda, Jo, Donna (Stockport Mind), Laura, Steve and Stuart (Co-op Manchester) for doing brilliantly on the day and for raising so much money. Here are some more pictures from the day:
We spoke to Jo about her experience of the day and she said, “it was a great atmosphere on the day, an amazing experience and I won’t take my sight for granted again”.
